Star Trek: The Motion Picture Mobile
Hi all,
A bunch of years ago, I bought on ebay this mobile, originally given out by M&M's/Mars as a premium give away. The following ships are part of the mobile USS Enterprise Work Bee Vulcan Shuttle Travel Pod Klingon D-7 Cruiser I assembled the parts, but never strung it up, Recently I found the bag with all the models and the cross members. I have taken them all apart(tab and slot), and I am toying with reinforcing them, and rebuilding them with closing tabs and other mods to make the models more durable. So, should I continue and "rebuild" them or just plunk down $15 for a new set? First picture shows all the ships and the cross members as they came out of the bag second picture shows all of the ships down to their parts. third picture, shows the cross members on a 11x17 sheet, I am thinking about laminating the members to the sheet, and then cutting out and using some craft sticks to provide extra reinforcement. Rick

Try rebuilding/reinforcing them first. If they look good (and why shouldn't they?), you saved yourself $15. Go to DQ as a reward.

I will rebuild.
some of the parts I need to flatten out, or take the warp out, so I am thinking about ironing the parts. As for the rebuild, I am thinking of just tightening up the parts, adding extra glue tabs and shaping the parts for a cleaner join. Rick

Glad to see you are rebuilding this. Building these fancy, complicated models is great but it's nice to do one of these old simple paper toys. I'm all for reinforcing and making it stronger; and for doing better than the old tab-and-slot. I've got a retro project of my own coming soon. Can't wait to see more!

Make it better than it was before... Flashier...Stronger...Better! And it won't cost $6 mil! Sorry. That was not controllable. I have this too but haven't seen it in years. Looking forward to seeing this done.

I hadn't heard of this model, but I do seem to recall some paper model Spock ears. Can't recall who sold/gave away the ears though.
