Not bad at all. Modeling with card isn't difficult, but it requires practice to become really adept at it. I hope you'll continue to work with the medium. You can't beat the price (files are often free), or the wide variety of subjects. I haven't seen that particular flying saucer model before - do you have a link?

For a first ever card model that's pretty good! Keep it up .

This is a great hobby (cheap too!), I hope you enjoy it!

you did a great job with your first, wish mine was that good. there are a lot of tips and tricks in the first cuts lounge if you haven't yet checked it out i recommend it. I too switched from styrene to paper several years ago. its cheaper, more chemically friendly, and if you mess it its just reprint and try again.

Basically, just need 65 pound cardstock, white glue, and a craft knife/scissors and you are ready to get started!
Thanks for the link.

I am going to wait a few on the thicker card stock until I have a few more simple builds using 20-24 lbs paper and am comfortable with building with paper.

After you get comfortable with the medium, I highly recommend trying out layering techniques. It's really fun to take a model with printed textures, then print extra pages and add three dimensional texture to an area that has pipes and other greebles. You can see the layered detail I added to the top of my Type 9 Shuttlecraft model:

The sensor mechanism was duplicated several times in this kit, so I figured it would be fun to layer the detail and make it look like it was more plastic than paper. Worked pretty well, too.

Also, those matte gray areas around the windows were actually painted with gray paint because they didn't align properly, but it demonstrates that you can use regular model paint to touch up the model if you desire.
