Olli's Imperial Shuttle, modified
Needing to do something different, I tried Olli's shuttle. But, being I cannot leave anything alone,
I modified it. First, when I printed it, I did not like the color, so I lightened it. Then, after printing several copies, I began the layering process to give a more dimensional appearance. Here, in the first pic, is the main vertical wing cut out parts used for layering. In the second pic, you can see the parts added onto the vertical wing. The upper most box was cut out, and a layer added behind it, giving a 3 layer appearance. In the next picture, simply parts of the fusalage and cabin. The next series of pictures, shows how I cut out a very thin box to add another level of depth. First, the inner section of the box is cut out, and removed. This lets me edge color the inside edge of the part. Then, the inner piece is re-inserted. This provides support to the thin parts while the outer box is cut. On to the outside. After the outer edges are cut, the entire piece is removed, so that the outer edges can be colored, again, using the inner part for support. After the edge color has dried, the inner section is once again removed, leaving you with a thin edged part, ready to be applied. Then, more parts are layered on, as in the vertical wing. Tomorrow, finished pictures.

Jeez, Ray. When you decide to do "something different," you go to town. Great start!

Watching you work is like going to school Ray. It's an education in itself. Really looking forward to the final pics today.

Looks great. Can't wait to see more. Nothing like cutting out tiny little parts.

My apologies, but pics are on hold until at least Monday. M/I/L issues.

Final
I had the opportunity to shoot the final pics today.
The landing pad on the base was also detailed, using the same layering technique as above. Compared to a 1/144 Star Wars game piece, it appears to be about 1/200 scale. Here it is.

Stunning work, although I keep wondering where you get those giant coins because a model that detailed can't actually be that small....

Thank you David. Can't tell you where I get the coins, that would give away
my secret!

Nice work. I tend to go the other way when I model. When I built an AT-ST, I printed it to 11"X17" paper and glued to pieces to cardstock.
I had a quick look and found a Tydirium shuttle that's 18 pages, includes interior details and working wings and rear gun mount. Guess I'll have to add that to my growing list of may-get-around-to-build-if-my-wife-doesn't-kick-me-out-first. |
