My only change would be to slow the flash rate a bit, otherwise that has serious promise.

I would be afraid to heat up the drop chip, by adding a resistor, but I have thought about a clear dome.

Way cool!! Just wonder what an Arduino Nano and some fiber optics could do for controlling the nacelles as well as the interior lighting and, maybe, even some phaser canon effects. ?? Possibilities are truly endless.
