T-47 Air Speeder (Snowspeeder), Paper Model

Time to start a new paper model and I want to keep it the same scale as the Y-Wing I have just completed. The T-47 is an iconic craft from the Star Wars universe and a really interesting shape, quite looking forward to the challenge of trying to get it looking good in paper!

I have collected a number of images from the web to look at the craft in different angles, cockpit, landing gear....

The finished model will be around 100mm long scale wise 1:55 approx. The reason for this is I do want to design from scratch and build an AT-AT Walker in paper at some point and may need to think of the size!

Now with it skinned in using UVMapping in PhotoShop.

The next part of the project is to bring the finished model into the real world using Pepakura.

It looks great.

You are so fast. Did you consider to use available model of AT-AT from Shunichi Makino? It is realy accurate model. It could save you some work, you just have to scale it and maybe retexture to match other models of yours.

I am not that quick, I have been working on this for the past 8 weeks or so, so am some way through the stages

I will take a look at the Makino one but I tend to enjoy the process from start to finish which involves creating and painting in the 3d software.

I have it the same. I have a few SW vehicles in design stage eventhou there are good paper models out there. My main reason is that I am "rivet counter" and I want to have the models as close to the originals as I can get them, even texturing. A-wing is the model I have taken the closest to the finish right now.

There is also great AT-ST from UHU02 to complete the Hoth battle vehicle list

I am loking forward to your build of the snowspeeder. I have one in design stage also

I have built UHU02's ATST and Xwing so far myself, tbh that's what helped me get better at modeling as it has so much detail.

Here is his X-wing that I built next to my Y-wing, i tried to build the Y-wing to a similar scale.

Really do love his work!

Sunday and another update

I have started importing the model into Pepakura which allows me to unfold all the parts, lay them out so I can print onto card stock.

As you can see its starting to take shape in Pepakura

As you can see there are some parts that will not be used as they are too small.

Once I am happy with the final layout I export it as a bitmap file and import into Photoshop for some final tweaks.

The next update should be a few weeks away once I have completed the layout for all the parts and printed them.

I agree with Shunichi's models, they are a formidable base for your project.

Speaking of Shunichi, when he was revisiting several of his older models I asked him if he was going to update the Sandcrawler, too. His is great but it is very simplified, especially the rear section. Unfortunately he said that this was not in his plans for the time being. Now my question: Would there be a possibility of you making one?

Have you a link to his model by any chance or is it in the download section?

I had no plans of making one but will have a think after finishing this one after looking at some image references.

Just taken a look at it and I see what you mean, the rusty weathering will be fun to do!
