Thanks, elliot! I used to do games and film, but now I am doing medical simulations. It's a less brutal industry.

After some test builds and a little re-design, I have made some progress. seems large, flat areas are not as strong as cylinders I had to do some reinforcing. Making bevels is not as fun and straightforward as one might think.
So here are some pics.... You can see some of the test builds, and also how I made it a turret as well. I am thinking of the paint scheme. I may try a "Spitfire" style mouth and eyes, or maybe some type of WWII bomber nose art. A little throwback or retro style paint job.

Added the antenna array and some details. Think that's it for the weekend I'll start building those leg units next week. Sixteen in all, with two hinge joints for each...may take me a little while...

Those legs would drive me nuts, all that repetition of work - I'd just 'switch off', or make less legs.

Yeah, I am already having designer's regret on that one. I think I may go back to the very first draft and make it with four larger legs.

Go with at least six legs. Four legs makes it look like two people in one of those animal costumes.
Repetitive work in glueing those legs can be tedious, but I put together a couple of articulated hands that had three joints on each finger and two on each thumb. Here is a video of one of them animated:
