For texturing the dome I started with the unfold which looks like this.

I researched the color of the building and found two "versions" that I liked. One is the more reddish one, probably taken at around sunset and the other is a more neutral sand color.

All the textures I have done so far are rectangular. I was very happy when I found a filter in gimp that is called "polar" which will bend a rectangular image into a circular shape. This is what I used for the texturing of the dome.

After a couple of iterations, increasing contrast, adjusting colors ...

... I was happy with this for the reddish version. I took my time with this dome build, being as precise and clean with the assembly as I could. And I am very satisfied with it. The cut edges almost disapear :-)

Roof taken off.

I then remembered the crates lying around the homestead and gave them a try too.

The speeder is not mine. It's of course Dave's (airdave) Landspeeder from the Koolwheelz collection. But it fits nicely with the building.

Now I need to make a build of the sand colored version, add some minor details like the door, the panel on the entrance wall etc and the set is good to go

Moving along nicely. The sand colored version should provide a nice contrast to the red tinted one.

The printer ink replacement has arrived and I was able to build the "sand" version of the dome today. In the back is the "sunset" version for comparison. Tomorrow I will build the new walls. Almost done!

Today I made the removable door for the open door version. There also is an easy version where the door is just printed on the wall.

And finally the "sand" color version assembled.

Just need to finish the instructions and check all the files again and then my new freebie set is finished!

Nice, simple, instantly recognizable model. You could have made it complicated with all kinds of geometry and other maths but you didn't and I'm glad. I like what you have done here Chris.

Thank you Elliott and Vermin King. I try to make my models as simple as possible hoping that also kids can build them. But also because I have never tried to design at the pro level you so often see here. I admire what some are able to do, Ships, Planes, Boats ...

Maybe one day I will try something more advanced :-)

That dome is really nice. Some good coloring on both versions, too.
