Pete, I owe you an apology, with a retraction
...and a modification to my statement about the Fireball viewmaster image.

I chatted with my 84 year old Mum last night about this topic, and she helped jog my memory.

That Fireball XL5 image (that Peter posted) was actually a publicity giveaway when Fireball was on TV.
It was in the form of a 35mm Transparency (Film Slide).

And that I do have (somewhere)...I am hunting for it.
I'll share a pic when I find it!

I believe my Viewmasters and GiveaShow projector stuff stayed in England when I immigrated to Canada in the late 60s.
Only thing I brought with me was my Thunderbirds mini-Record

The Viewmaster reel I had was most likely to do with Supercar.
I also had a Thunderbirds reel later on.
Probably like this:

I also had the Give-a-Show Projector which had Supercar/Fireball/Stingray slides.

No apology needed my friend. Love the look of the mini projector...Fancy leaving without it When I was knee eye to a grasshopper, I had a plastic slide projector, I think that was Chad Valley, it came with Jungle book slides, I wasn't in the least bit interested in JB. It had about as much light output as a candle lol.

Venus must be up there with the UFO Moonbase girls, oh and the girls on Sky1.
I don't think I ever saw any XL5. Only saw 1 episode of Joe 90. My Anderson viewing started with Thunderbirds onwards. Would love to experience XL5.

My childhood was filled Supercar, Fireball and then Stingray.

If you are really curious about the early Anderson shows, take a look for The Adventures of Twizzle.
I never saw this show...before my time
But Twizzle was one of Gerry Anderson's first TV shows...the original Toy Story!

Not politically correct, watch for the Golliwog.

You can watch many episodes of Fireball and Supercar online.
Supercar https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...percar+-+S1E01
Fireball XL5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj9UqTnK5Qs

Keeping in mind that before Thunderbirds, the shows were a lot more juvenile.
Not bad by any means...just geared toward the very young.
And the puppet technology was still in its infancy.

I never got into Joe90, but it was a direct match to Thunderbirds.
Almost felt like a sequel of sorts.
Same time period, same models, same sets.

It wasn't until Captain Scarlet that things really got more serious, and more adult.
And the puppet heads were finally scale size to match the bodies!

I was watching some Joe90 last night!....
I'm thinking some of the puppet heads were from Capt Scarlet?
Joe90 characters have the normal scale heads introduced in Capt Scarlet,
but the faces look eerily similar to me.

lol

Hey Pete...I am still looking...but I have searched almost everywhere and cannot find that Fireball slide.
Its annoying the heck out of me, that I may have lost it... I don't remember selling it or giving it away.

On the bright side, during my search I have dug out a ton of old slides and old Viewmaster reels.

I found some fantastic old long forgotten photos (35mm slides).
I am trying to get my old Canon Slide Scanner working so I can digitize the photos and share them.
I've found all kinds of 1960s Car Shows and Drag Racing photos!

Hey....I think there's a bit of a Fanderson in all of us from that era. With Fireball, since my childhood, I have always steered my head away from the crazy creatures side of it. I try to see XL5 as a real craft and try logics that would make her work in reality. I know this perhaps sounds crazy...I am lol, but she is too nice a craft not to work. If you dial in some physics, the task doesn't seem too far fetched. Dave, sorry you havent managed to find the slide, but you found things just as important. You are a diamond just the same mate. Thanks for looking. The problem with handling our card media remains, but I am going to attempt a wooden version using your upscale model as templates Dave, so....I just might get me a Fireball XL5 to stare lovingly at. My large scratch build is no more, but hey.....

The build {last one for XL5} is now underway. The issue with my skin started to appear, i worked fast and washed my hands as often as i could. One blister appeared and burst but i've sorted it out. Moving on to the wood carving and achieved one Stabiliser {not finished, but almost to profile} I will keep you updated as often as i can.

Well spotted! Not mine (although I do like some of their music) that's a confession I feel.... I'm into heavy metal. I've managed to get the other stabiliser carved, they both need refining before painting and lettering, still a way to go but enjoying myself again.
