PS. By uploading this model, the author is also agreeing that they are not breaching anyone else's copyright by doing so but if they have created a 3D model from scratch from the images in the Aliens movie and various expanded universe publications and not by hacking files within a game or other media, then that can pretty well be construed an original work. A few years ago, Lucasfilms was issuing cease and desist orders to any one commercially developing models derived from the Star Wars movies but this is pretty extreme.

SJP-Thanks for the clarification. I'm just the type of person who does not want to be labeled as "one of those guys". The type of person who steals other peoples work.

Either way, Whenever this gets released, the model will have the original 3D authors name attached to it.

A small update, For all intents and purposes, the model is ready for unfolding. I don't think I'll have time this weekend to start on that though. I will be out of town for a few days. Sorry.:(

PS What would be the best way to handle the color on this thing? (Read cost effective) The gun is essentialy all black except for a few details.

The original model looks to be designed in 1/1 scale in Sketchup. With the measurement tool that works out to 1.223 meters or 4.013 feet long.
I don't have the money to buy three sets of ink cartridges to build this thing! I was gonna make it line art only so it can br printed on something like a dark gray paper.

Or I was gonna build it all white and paint it black with color details.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Printing it on black/grey cardstock seems the cheaper option, though all white and painting gives a better finish, at the cost of a lot of paint.

I'm having the same thoughts with my P-90 design, and that's only little. I'd go with the lines only as an option, at least.

a spray-can or two would be considerably cheaper than 4 or 5 black cartridges.

agreed on the printing cost. Colored stock is much more reasonable.

Maybe a B/W line version and color version for those who want to drop the $ on ink?

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming!

I think I'll do both the color version and the line version. Won't be hard to do.

As far as the color version, I'm trying to find a suitable texture for it. The one from the warehouse was, well it wasn't awful but it wasn't great either. Something subtle that will translate well when printed.

Ding ding ding...

They used a steady-cam rig/harness like the one used to film the Endor speeder bike runs in Empire Strikes Back.
