1980 Star Trek Enterprise Model

Hi All

I am not sure if there is members that know about the Tor Lokvig Star Trek Model book that came out with the 1980 Star Trek movie as part of the sales merchandise I remember an uncle bringing the book back from the USA from a business trip, and many years later I found 2 copies of the book.

I went and pulled the one book apart and scanned the parts for the model and I kept the other in the best way one can from a book of 1980.



I have after building the train model to finally going ahead and printed the scans to build the model from that copy of the book that I totally pulled apart with the colour lazer copier machine prints.



Out of interest are there members in the sci-fi world that remember this book?

I will post pictures once I with finished the model.

Are you using the actual book or are you building from a copy and saving the original?

I say "build from the book...save the scan copy for repairs, extra parts, etc"

If you scan and build the copy...and save the book...you've actually pirated the book.
Whats to stop you from selling the book or passing it along to someone else?
In which case you used a unauthorized copy.
This is why books say in them "do not copy in any form".

Although I agree with our rights as book owners to scan and copy those books for our own personal use,
many people like to scan books (like paper model books) just so they can resell the book later.

I'm not suggesting this is your intention.

I scan printed models before building, just in case.
I only plan to print parts if I need them.
I build the original as it was intended.
If I want one for my collection, I will buy a second copy.

Only time I will agree that making a copy and building it is allowable
is in the case of rare, one-of-a-kind items.

I have scanned the book years ago, I in fact managed to get my hands on second book.

This book is in fact is one of the main reasons that I got into paper modeling, Yes I may be doing a copyright no-no but I am not going to sell the scans, at the end of the day the scans are well over 1.5 gigs.

The first book has been put back together as to keep the originals in an ok state.
The second book is only for collecting reasons and is kept in plastic and will never spit.

I had one of these models years ago as a kid and I destroyed it about year 2 later, and this is just one of those models that it gets old and messy I will build it again to be that little boy again.
Where I live this book never ever made it to country and die hard star trek fans that I have met did not even know about the book. It took 5 years and many different wordings in google and so on to find the book, I did not remember the name of the book only what the cover looked like so in my part of the woods it is rare to even know and have one.

I have got to the 40% mark on the model, it has been a bad few days at work and the model has had to go on the side lines for now....

I'm no expert but you seem to me to be on solid ground copyright-wise. Congratulations on finding not one, but TWO, copies of what appears to be a rare book. Looking forward to seeing your build of it.

That's a cool-looking Enterprise. Thanks for the pics Retunga. The parts seem pretty thick. Any idea of their thickness?

I used 160 gram paper for the model build, but the original model seems to be 200 gram paper.
160 Gram works fine for this model.
