PDC, point defence or personnel defence cannon, I believe the expanse uses the former term more often but in basic terms it's series of high fire rate gatling guns that provide the ship with anti missile protection at range and close quarters offence capability.

Okay I think I can do some pictures now folks.

So here's my first attempt at the Roci, not too bad for my first model build in the best part of a decade and a half but after closer inspection I did make some mistakes. I could get the fine detail on the drive cone right and I made a total mess of the some of the details on it and managed to get the mid section PDC mounting points on the wrong way round.

So mark two was needed, and I opted to make this one a bit bigger to try and make forming the detail on the drive cone easier. I also decided to go for the Tachi colour scheme

Finally the two together

You can see the size difference with the Tachi being 33% larger.
which in turn made it a bit easier for my sausages fingers to form the finer details

Roci on the left Tachi on the right.

Thought I would add a separate post for progress on the PDC.

I am working on a mk3 version, trying my hand at some extra detail, a slightly bigger model still at 150% of original and have opted to go with trying my hand at some PDCs for the model.

The look and setup I have tried pulling from what is shown in the show using a combination of the Tachi and Rocis and quite a bit of creative freedom.

Mk1 PDC

Wrong size, and the base is just wrong it's something I came up with as it looked like it might work and was pretty easy to build, but I then opted to make the model bigger and decided to go for better detail including a way to actually fix the whole thing to the model that is in keeping with what is shon in the show.

Mk2

A better base with more accurate mounting just remember these is a prototype so I was pretty lazy with one or two on the fly mods to get sizing right.

Stuff to mount it, on the right the original PDC housing with the door cut out on the left the insert that is shown in the show as rasing out of the open PDC housing and in the middle the internals. This is 95% made up as their is only one clear shot of the internals in the entire show and even that is at an odd angle

Needed a few tweaks here and there, a little bit of refinement needed and their is a little bit of detail around the PDC entrance that I need to work on but so far not looking to bad.

Nice jobs on the builds, especially given your "vacation" from card modeling. And the PDCs will be a welcome addition to a fine kit.

Unlike you, my subsequent builds of Michael's model were in smaller scales -- the Rocinante in 1/144 and Tachi in 1/200.

I like the look of your take on the PDC housing, I think it will go well with the rest of the model. Nice work!

Thanks guys, I'll do the 150% build first then scale the PDC modes down and use the Mk1 as a test bed so that they can be used with the Mikes model as standard before sticking the designs up.
