Excellent job ... as usual :-) This will be a fine model once completed! I built the regular version but I would love to try that one too if time allows (yes, yes, I know, I have to complete the X-Wing first ;-) )

Wow, I missed a lot of progress on this build. It looks fantastic! what are your plans for the canopy glass? I'm building a modified sort of A-wing in 1/48ish scale, and a reversed F18 canopy looks like a close fit to the original shape. So I used that instead of vacuforming the canopy myself. Might save you some work.

Thank you.
Great tip imcold, I will look at that. It could save me the work with vacuforming. Makers of original prop used some F-14 (wings) and F-16 (engine intake) parts. F-16 canopy looks close too. Is it possible to see your build somewere? I am couriouse |

Interesting point about canopy glass, I have been using clear laminating sheets but the glass on my models has been flat so far.

F16 may work too. I couldn't find many aftermarket canopy glass sets for modern airplanes, so I had to go with F18 (I didn't want to buy a whole kit just for the glass). I bought this: https://www.mn-modelar.cz/1-48-f-a-18a-hornet/ I have one spare that I can give away, at least I think - I moved recently and can't find it at the moment. I hope I did not throw it to the garbage bin by accident. Not yet, it's cut to bits and pieces. I used the resistance A-wing from Revell as a base, but I ended up not liking it, so I'm creating a mix of that's body shape, original style A-wing cockpit, panel lines and detailing, and McQuarrie's concept A-wing. I have set Christmas as the deadline for the build though, so I'll post some pics soon. Enjoy my half-build X-wing collection in the meantime (graphic content warning - plastic models) |
