One of my favorite mechs. Now... make it like... 4' tall?
And don't worry about mixed media. I use it all the time and no one has complained.

Thanks for stopping by! Yep, this is definitely one of my favourite mechs too. It just looks so intimidating, even in the 35mm scale. I'm currently painting the cast dreadnought, and I have some more plans for the original, but that has to wait until sometime in 2019 when I get a chance to work on it again. Just didn't want to post too much that doesn't have to do with actual model building anymore |

Started working on the dreadnought project again; well actually more like re-starting, as in completely, from scratch
For reasons [0], the previous master model is not workable anymore, so I went back to the drawing board and started rebuilding the main body from scratch, borrowing some of the parts from the Drednoyt III template by Patoroch (the same template I used previously) I will be scratchbuilding most of the legs and weapons, and reusing the template's shoulders and waist. Here is the main body in the closed position: and in the open position: I cut a more interesting separating line between the two halves, and as a last minute detail incorporated the "jaw" of the dreadnought in the separation, so that the open dreadnought will look like it is about to swallow the pilot. I was led to believe that the central casket is where the 'pilot' is housed - the ancient Space Marine kept drugged asleep until the dreadnought is required. I don't think the whole shell opens up - unless GW have altered things.

You are of course absolutely right Sir. But the Mechanicum has to get what's left of the pilot's body into the capsule/casket and hook it up to the life support systems *before* they can send the dreadnought off to fight... Plus, this is a scratchbuild, so I get to do what I want :p |

Front details
Added the little pipes and connectors to the front face place.
This was an exercise in frustration. No matter what I did, the pipes never looked acceptable, until I realised I had to move the backing plane (behind the shoulder plates and face plate) *back*, to create a but of space behind the front facing plates to insert the pipes into. Now they look ok to me: |

Finished rebuilding the body, waist and legs.
Here it is, posed with the cannon and arm from the previous build. This is all held together with bluetack for photographic purposes I made the should joints into cylinders, this is more accurate and looks IMHO a bit prettier than the original boxy Patoroch version, and shows off the detail a tad better. The legs are more accurate, and the pistons around the lower legs are easier to fit with more detail. The backpack is a tad more accurate, but I did re-use a lot of the original template. It needs more detailing though. As mentioned before, I plan to make a diorama out of it, here's a very rough preview: |

A little update on this project: been making some progress on the diorama.
I worked on the plasma cannon and power fist for this model: The occupant has been installed, with the life support system hooked up so he doesn't die on us. Some non-papercraft work also went into this, here is a closeup of the so-called cog mechanicum symbol which will is visible at the top of the diorama. It is made with sculpey. And here is the current layout of the diorama: Thanks for watching! |

Wow, that is really great. Multi media modelling at its best.
