Mixed-media Patoroch Dreadnought

Since my Land Raider has a lot of staring-at-the-walls-waiting-for-the-paint-to-dry going on, I decided to start working on another of Eli Patoroch's models: the Dreadnought.

This is definitely not a box-with-some-panelling: it is tiny, and the leg structure is funky, with lots of angles.

I'm adding in some plastic bits, at this time only to replace the boxy leg-tubes from the original version with something that has more texture.

The last pic is just a mock-up, using some bluetac to keep everything together. The lower legs still have to be trimmed to size, before adding more details.

I plan to keep almost all pieces separate until the very end, because I've got something different planned for this model.

I've gone and compared my model with photos of the official Dreadnought, and realized that the body was not quite in proportion to what it needs to be.

This is not the fault of the Patoroch template, rather my inept build
So I've gone and modified the model a bit, here is the latest result.
The legs are sunk into the feet pads (which have been rebuilt with thicker card), and I've removed the waste section. The shoulder pads have also been beefed up.

Cheers Don!

Here is some progress on the weapons. The multi-barrel auto-cannon needs rework (I don't like the look of the toothpicks, I will roll barrels out of paper instead). And most of everything is still blue-tacked on.

A bit more progress on the body: panels, rivets, etc.
I am using some green stuff (putty) to fill in some deeper holes.
There is some vinyl tubing for the hoses on the legs.

Rivets & Surgery

More rivets, and some surgery for the next steps.

I think this build will have a *lot* of mixed media in it, so it might not float everyone's boat.
I'll keep posting updates, but you have been warned :p

Some more progress: bulking out the... bulkheads?
The body fits together nicely.

Adding more detail to the feet.

Prime and bake, I mean mold

So here is the primed body of the dreadnought - it looks a tad cleaner this way

I did this last night, then took the legs, feet and shin guard armor and set them up in the first part of a 2-part silicone caulk mold. I check them this morning, everything looks good, so this week I'll do the second part, then I can cast it in resin.

The body and powerplant (backpack) will go in a separate mold, then of course the weapons in a third mold.

Power fist

The mold is complete, so I removed the parts from it. They only suffered minimal damage, nothing a bit of CA couldn't fix.

Started building a power fist, the little guy is looking more complete now.
