The Donnager has now taken pride of place with the Roci
Have been busy setting things up for the instructions. Haven't done anything quite as complex as this so not sure what works for builders. I have two options, I have a whole load of photos of the build but their are instances were I have made changes on the fly or just forgotten to take pictures. The other option I've been working on is using images from the blender model to show how the parts come together. The Blender idea should give a more consistent look but will most likely miss a few details that got changed once exported from Blender. Anyone got any tips on how they go about creating instructions for their builds? Programs, techniques anything that may be useful? |

Just wow.. I finished my Roci. Posted the pictures half an hour ago in the thread of the maker!
did you design the guns yourself? |

Depends on how much time I stick in to the instructions, I have almost all of the images I need for the instructions. I just need to come up with a layout for them. Give it a week or so, assuming I don't need to tweak or generate any new images. |

I've designed instructions in a few different ways. I've made small comments about the assembly in captions with the parts - which is helpful when the parts are not complicated to assemble and can be numbered as to where they go on the body of the craft. I've also done full instruction pages that step parts through their construction and assembly on the larger model. And I've used the photos from my prototyping with a brief description and a healthy amount of circles and arrows overlaid - which, like you surmised, don't always match the finished product but was close enough I thought.
I've always wished that I could have devoted the energy and time to create partial exploded views of the 3D model being assembled. With each step showing small sequence images of the part being assembled within the larger "this-goes-there" picture. But who loves a thing that much? I've never had any feedback on my instruction designs though, and haven't "loved" anyone else's instructions enough to emulate. Hope the perspective helps.

Okay folks need a little feedback on this
First page of the instructions. It covers the formation of the first main part of the models body. I've opted for a combination of blender images combined with actual photos where specific detail is needed. I am trying to keep text down to a minimum. I just need a little feedback on if this is clear enough. |
