Something Ive always wanted to do ever since I was a kid

having listened to the War of the Worlds LP countless hundreds of times as a teenager, being new to paper modelling (about 2 months) like most of the newbies i suppose have spent some time aimlessly surfing around looking at what free stuff is available, I stumbled onto the "original" or my favourite looking War of the worlds tripod, downloaded at and thought I'm going to try and recreate the epic scene of the Thunder Child trying to ram the tripod,
Now as far as I can remember the thunder child was loosely based on the one and only Torpedo ram the Royal navy had in service at the time, after poking around the only British ship the was sort of correct for look (if 5 years too new) and mk I eyeball scale was the 1:500 HMS dreadnought.
so since it was too hot to go outside today and still on holiday I made a start on the tripod and the ship which will be modified a little to look a little older than the 1905 battleship.

As there was no such ship and Thunder Child was born of the mind of H.G.Well in about 1895 you can build just about any ship that loosely fits the description and fits the era.
Modelers license eh. If it looks right then it must be right.
It was only 22 degrees in Hawera today, too hot to go outside, really?

Looks like you're off to a great start. Do a forum search for "Thunderchild". You'll find some fine modeling work to inspire you. This diorama by member paper kosmonaut is very impressive: Thunderchild vs. the Tripods

Great work! I really like your take, as well as getting to see PK's diorama as well. Inspirational, both!
