Millennium Falcon Episode 5 version

Just started my first paper model build. My original plan was to build a model of the Hubble Space Telescope to slowly introduce myself to this but then saw plans for the Millennium Falcon which looked a little more exciting; no offence HST...

Mindful that I'm probably throwing myself in at the deep end but what's the worst that can happen...

Well I've only cut out my first two pieces and stuck them together and I've already started learning:
- not to use too much glue - the blue line on the image shows were the paper has wrinkled too much. This join won't show in the finished model so not too worried yet.
- make deeper scores for the bits I need to fold

I suppose you really learn by doing and if I make a complete hash of it I can always start again.

Going to use this thread to post updates as it progresses.

Yeah, go sparingly with the glue. A little goes a long way.

That's a pretty decent model of the Millennium Falcon and you shouldn't have too much trouble with it. Follow the instructions and you should be ok. I built it some months ago (I shrunk it down to 1/96th scale) and didn't have any great difficulty. I scratchbuilt the later rectangular radar scanner, or whatever the heck it is....

That looks amazing.

I'm hoping I can keep developing the model by taking pieces off it and re-building them e.g. I saw a model of the MF with a very detailed cockpit which looked really good - bit advanced for me but something to work towards.

Indeed, don't want to get ahead of myself.

Here's me talking about developing a model and I've only got the first 2 pieces stuck together! ha ha

Gotta start somewhere, and you're right, learn by doing, don't be afraid to try... What's the worst that can happen? Nothing.

Another tip, which Star Wars models are really suited to, is to print extra copies of the outer skins and laminate them to thicker card so you can cut out and add extra 3D details (greebles) .

Good luck with it and happy building.

Thanks jaffro. Greebles, never knew about them but obviously stared at them in awe every star wars film.

Nice choice

Congrats Svendo42 for a very good choice of a model. I finished it a year ago and it is a crown jewel of my living room I did the opposite of @dhanners and enlarged it to A3 format so it is 137% of the original.
