1/67 WH40K(ish) Big Momma

I present my build of the Ursus Big Momma self propelled siege mortar. This free kit is part of the excellent and ever growing Warhammer 40K paper model line by Ukrainian designer Patoroch (Vadim Davydkov). I found out after the build was well underway, that this one is not actually an 'official' WH40K vehicle. The original design (and resin kit), is from the independent Polish manufacturer of fantasy/sci-fi war gaming miniatures, puppetwars.com. It sure is cool looking, though.

Designed in 1/60 scale on A4 page size, I had to shrink the parts pages to fit on 8.5x11" paper resulting in a 1/67 scale model. Besides the complete Ursus Big Momma model in color and black and white, the kit also includes black and white parts to build 3 different turreted variations of the Ursus tank.

As usual, I couldn't leave well enough alone and textured the white model using Photoshop. The livery I chose depicts a vehicle of the 28th Vostroyan Firstborn Heavy Armored Regiment. The sledgehammer and gear logo is appropriate, but not official.

These 40K models are a blast to build, and are really impressive looking when finished. They can be addicting though, so watch out .

Very interesting models indeed.

So, Don, do you generally prefer black and white models so you can do what you want with them? Lately I have been doing some 'Road Warrior' buggies that I've been using rusty/oxidized metal textures on. Everyone that is building them retextures them to themes near and dear to their hearts, so I was wondering if maybe I should offer white versions. When I ask about whether they should be offered in white, the standard answer is 'It's easy enough to change, so don't bother.' I just thought I would get your perspective on that

Thanks for your nice comments, fellas. VK, in Photoshop, I often use "magic wand" or lasso tools to select a specific area for change. If the area is all of one color, selecting it is easy. If the area contains multiple colors/patterns, it becomes more challenging to neatly capture the entire area to be modified. So, I prefer to work with black outlines on a light colored or white field for full recolors. If I were just adding painted on slogans, or logos to a rusty texture it wouldn't really matter. I hope that answers your question.

Addictive? Yeah I can see that, and you always seem to bring out the best in them. Always nice to see your work.

Thank you, Bob and Chris. These things are so addictive, that immediately upon finishing this one, I began a new one. This time it's an Immolator, which was (or is it "will be"?) fielded exclusively by the Adeptus Sororitas - an all female fighting force, also known as the Battle Sisters.
