Alrighty, after nearly two weeks of working on the laser barrels, I finally got them built and detailed! They turned out bigger than they should be, but that's okay. The important thing is, they look the part! The gray I used on the barrels is a tad darker than the rest of the model, like the hero prop, and the centers are removable. Next item to tackle will be the base itself, starting with the main walls, but for now, enjoy these pictures:

Thanks so much for the compliments, guys. They mean a great deal! I work hard on my models, and it's awesome to know you like my work.

So the next thing I needed to build were the two walls on either side of the tower. They're a necessary addition because they will eventually be a screen for secret die rolls and a place to put the quick reference rules, so I figured, why not have some fun and make them as cool as possible? And while I was at it, why not make a small interior to increase visual interest? Here's the in-progress pics as well as the model in its current state:

A reference to make sure it's in scale with the minis:

The finished work so far:

Fans of Dark Forces might recognize this switch:

Next up is the retaining wall. After that's done, I just need to mount it all to a based, detail-paint it, and weather it. I'm trying to get it done by Sunday, the 8th!

Alright, it's finally finished! I actually finished it yesterday, but it wasn't till today I was able to take pics. And man, what a weekend... I actually started on Saturday in the middle of the afternoon, and it wasn't until Sunday at 4:45PM that I was able to finish the last coat of paint! And it shows in places, but overall, this thing is impressive and cool, and my group thought so, too! Not only did I get an ovation from the whole group after taking the sheet off (because hell yes I'm going to reveal this thing with as much pizzazz as my budget will allow!) but they all broke out their cell phones and took pictures to share on the internet! I was pretty thrilled with the reception, to say the least! And it performed wonderfully! The dice rolling mechanism didn't cause any dice to get stuck, and the lights worked flawlessly throughout the night. And after the game was over, they told me that having that huge turbolaser tower looming over the game map gave it a lot of presence and intimidation, which was an unexpected but lovely bonus.

My friend who hosts our games wants me to leave it at his house so I don't have to keep climbing the steps with 30 pounds of model in my hands every time we get together for Star Wars RPGs. Really, I think he wants to use it in our other games for himself. But in any case, enough rambling on. Time for the finished pics!
