1/50 VolksFlakWagen

Here's something that's a little quirky. I present to you the VolksFlakWagen - a flak gun mounted on the back of a VW Type 2 pickup (hey, it coulda happened). This is another development of Yakov Panov's free VW pickup white model. A couple of years ago I had made a groovy surf wagon from this same kit 1/50 VW Type 2 Pick Up

I textured this one in an appropriate panzer grey color with rivets, diamond plate, and armored vision panels. The rear wheels have been doubled to handle the weight of the flak gun, which is taken from der Kampflieger's 1/72 Flakpanzer I kit.

The base is from the paperdiorama.com site, modified with a background of war time city ruins.

This was fun!

Very well done. I like the diamond tread pattern on the rear deck. The germans mounted aa guns on just about anything that could tote them, the old Horch staff care comes to mind in the Afrika wars.

Great looking vehicle, a sort of WWII 'technical'.

Thanks for all the kudos, guys. I don't know where the inspiration came from, but I'm glad it did. It was fun to build. Yakov's white Vdub pickup is a blank canvas, and the possibilities are endless. I'm thinking a slammed, rear engined rat rod might be an interesting project.

I just started it this morning, gotham. I found the perfect rust/paint image on line, and the body is already pretty much textured. I'm not going to chop the top, I'm just going to slam it. Now I need to find an engine.

Thank you for the nice compliment, asaf.
