MCRN Scipio Africanus, Morrigan Class, 1:100
Hi folks!
afther release of the Morrigan Class, I downloaded the files (first version) and had the well known problems, but could solve them. I printed the Instruction and parts and the first look showed me a very good looking paper kit. Cheers, Wiwo |

Internal Framework
It starts with the internal framework.
The layout of the framework is laminated to 1mm cardstock. Cutting them out, it shows, that MB-A and MB-B are not corresponding with the picture in the instructions. But I think that does not matter. But I dont trust the inner cutout of MB-1. So I glued all parts together except MB-1. Next the inner part of the nose and the front and bottom part of the hull. I glued them together an tryed the fit of the parts. As expected, the inner cutout of MB-1 was to small. I cut away about 1mm on top and at the rigth and left side. Also was it necessary to cut away some card at MB-B. At the bottom of the U shaped front I tokk away about 2mm and 1mm on the inner right and left side. Then the hull parts fitted very good. Cutting out the hull of the mainbody gluing it to the framework and preparing the rear end hull. Putting the hull to the frmework showed a flare in the construction. MH-MID is not placed at the highest and broadest place of the hull so it shows on the topside a hollow area. We will see what effect this will have when attaching the rear body. Regards Wiwo |

Rear Main Body
Up to the rear body.
Laminating the printed parts to cardstock, cut them out and glue them together. Take care to glue the front- and rear end to the right side of the framework. A test with the front main body show no problems. Next step, cutting out the parts of the hull and intakes and gluing them together. Then put in the framework and glue it to the hull. Last step cutting out and prepearing the end of the body and attach on the rear side. So this stage is done. Regards, Wiwo |

Marriage of the Main Bodies
Back again.
Now comes the moment of truth. The "Marriage" of the two main bodies. As feared, on the top side, the hollow area of the hull does not meet the edge in the line of the upper intake. It would be a good idea to install a new MID-former exactly at the highest and broadest place of the front Main Body. Thats all for the moment. Regards Wiwo |

Keeping an eye on this thread
Gotta say I am a bit annoyed that you've encountered issues with that gap when joining the two sections. I spent a fair bit of time doing redesigns to try and get rid of that and thought I had got it sorted. Two options come to mind, 1). A faux plate design that can be applied to either side to hide the gaps. 2). A re design that has the intakes added after the two parts joined. This was the original design but I dropped it as it ruined the lines of the model. It also introduced issue with lining everything up. 3). I'd need to take another look at the build and see if their are any tweaks that can be made to line things up better. |

Front Mainbody - Back to start.
Hi folks.
I was with the gap between front mainbody and rear mainbody absolutly unhappy. So I did some rework. Cheesy Wotsit provides with his download also a Blender datafile. I converted this and importet the data to Rhinoceros 5. I redesigned the order of the vertical frames and placed the second frame from back to the place where the lines of the body have an edge. The result is shown in the first three pictures. Then I rebuildt the Mainbody, the hull is done with the original parts. In the fourth pic you can see the difference between new (left) and origin (right). The last pic shows, that now everything fits perfekt! Cheesy Wotsit did a perfect construction job on the rear mainbody. Now the build can go on. Regards, Wiwo |

Engineering left, right and bottom
Hello.
Next step are the engineering sections. The main section needs some structural enforcements. So I made three formers and and glued them inside. Together wit the other assembled parts the section is glued to the rear main body. At the bottom engineerinring section, part 1, is the hight to small. Better take this part from a second printout of the left and right section. An other thing looks not so good. When attaching the upper part, the orange stripes will be hidden nearly completly. (picture #6) So I took these stripes from a second printout and glued them to the section. Looks now much better. (picture #7) Thats all for today. Regards, Wiwo |
