Cool Thunderbirds Firefly

Here is my second build of the Thunderbirds show vehicles. The Firefly
Thunderbirds Firefly-firefly.jpg

My first was the transporter TB 2 . Here is my build : Thunderbird 2

The model here in our Download section is by Gary Pilsworth : http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/v...ownloadid=1196

as well as his other Thunderbirds vehicles you can select : http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/v...=searchresults

For a quick "inspirational" video here it is in action on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klcCmJXJRYk

This is really a futuristic looking Fire fighting Bulldozer in line with the other TB vehicles.

I would like to build it and then dirty it up to look operational, but since I am still not home, I will probably touch up the panels with colored pens.

Here is a picture I found on the internet of a completed paper model

Exclamation Lets start

Here is the instruction sheet. Visual and simple.
Thunderbirds Firefly-img_1354.jpg

I started with the heat shield / pusher by adding a clear plastic and laminating the parts.

then the rear turret ( or somethingmajig..... )

Exclamation Wheels

there are 4 wheels per side riding inside the tracks. There is no details of sprockets that drive the threads in this simple rendition.

I added wood dowels for axles instead of rolling card

Just to note, there should be a hole in the shield for a retractable mortar.

This paper model has dispensed with that detail as well as other.

I know what you are talking about.

There is also no detail on the driving sprockets for the threads either.

In any case, this is only a fun build for me.

Cool Tracks

The tracks are interestingly simple and are a one piece arrangement that is folded, notched and glued to itself. For a simple model I say : Great !!!!!!!!!!!. I had tracks with thousands of parts unless it is a super detailed vehicle.

Here it is

Thunderbirds Firefly-img_1368.jpgThunderbirds Firefly-img_1369.jpgThunderbirds Firefly-img_1370.jpgThunderbirds Firefly-img_1371.jpg

Thunderbirds Firefly-img_1373.jpg, the change in color ( reddish like ) is due to the printer running out of ink. However, it will be on the inside and will not be seen, so I decided to use it anyhow. Adds a little character.

Once done, I inserted the forward and aft wheel to shape the track

If you watch the video clip at 30 seconds in, notice the rear wheel has sprockets that drive the tracks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klcCmJXJRYk

Since this is a fire fighter tractor, it operates in hot environments, so I don't think rubber wheels relying on friction is a good idea ( me talking as an engineer ).

In any case this is all fantasy stuff anyhow.

Thanks
