FRNS Albion

Mike Haggard's old FRNS Albion prototype. He totally redesigned the ship after this version, but never released it. This one hasn't been available since 2004.

I see this ship as an earlier era ship, with the later design from Mike an updated ship, like the Trek TOS ships verses the TNG ones.

I was looking through my old files for something different to build to relieve my "designer's burnout". That is, I wanted to build someone else's model for a change. I never seemed to have enough ink when I wanted to print this one in the past. I have a fair amount now, just not enough paper for many more models. Oh, well, it's always something.

On to the pictures. Lots of mistakes, but I plan on building a better one in the future.

Cool looking ship. Was that something that he freelanced, or is it from a game, series, movie?

It's from a series of stories Mike was writing. Albion Rising is an original novel series of Michael Haggard about an advanced space faring civilization finding themselves stranded on a primitive feudalistic backwater planet... and how they get rescued from themselves. (quote stolen from Ninjatoes' blog entry for Mike's Albion Rising space superiority fighter). The first few installments were posted on his old site, but thats down now. Hopefully they'll be posted on his current blog; Albion Rising sometime.

Excellent! I thought his sites were all down. I was using Wayback Machine last night to see what models could still be found. I hope he brings back some of his old gaming terrain pieces, too.

That's got some very interesting shapes to it. Rather a unique model.

In the wake of Mike's unfortunate passing, just thought I'd give this thread a bump in his memory.

His old site referenced above is still up, so if you want to build any of his remaining available models as a tribute, go get them now.

He and I were talking a great deal about his re-releasing all of the Capul Universe stuff right up to things started getting bad in March. Its a shame he never got around to doing the re-release. Or for that matter, having the time and patience to hassle with the eCard folks where they were available - until the site went down.

Is that the shuttle or the Captain's Gig?

Michael passed away this week, but we received all his files before he passed and will be posting them here.

It is good that people are actively preserving the work of our friends who have passed. A great tribute to them.
