Ron's TOS Enterprise build

I've been lurking about here for a while now and I have yet to show any of my builds... mainly due to the fear of showing my novice attempts next to some of the truly mind blowing stuff shown on this forum! However, I think the time has come for me to don the man-pants and change this!

This is my current build, as you can see it's Mike Hungerford's repaint of Ron Caudilo's fabulous rendition of the original Enterprise. I'm having some fun with it and using some coloured card and foil to add some utterly non-cannon detail to her as I go along -it seems everyone and their mother is redesigning and updating the old girl so I thought I'd have a crack at it! - I've also changed the name and registry and added phaser turrets made from toothpicks.

I'm afraid that you can't really see in these photos but I cut out each window and backed them with transparent blue acetate (stolen from work ) and silver paper (stolen from the wife ) to give them a nice effect that looks quite convincing in real life.

I've had a few problems with the glue I'm using (some sort of Turkish UHU knockoff) and xeroxed parts are the devils work but so far I'm very pleased with how she's coming so far.

Gold ciggerette pack foil, great stuff!

Thanks for looking, crits and comments are welcome.

Hello Sushibones,
Thanks for sharing your build and I really like the customization of my original model!

I hope you find building it as enjoyable as I did in designing it.

Best Regards,

Mchale, you sound like my mother :P seriously though, I am trying to give the deathsticks up and have gone from 20 to 5 a day (that's a serious feat for a overworked English teacher!) It's unfortunate but I HATE gum with a passion so I'll have to find another source for coloured foil. Ron, thank you for your kind comments. I have been wanting to do this model for a long while and yes, I'm really enjoying it! Next one will hopefully be the TOS bridge (modified to show the NCC-1777).

I'm building the lower saucer and I've run into a perplexing snag. For some reason I have serious alignment problems with the 2nd ring and for the life of me I can't understand why. All I've done is remove the tabs and edge glued with but joints and guiders. Has anyone else who has built this kit run into a similar situation?

Maybe my build thread will help: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 (TOS) in 1:1700

The lower saucer is indented so you have cones going various ways... so it has a cross section that looks like this poor ascii rendition:
Code:
     ___ ___
\___/ \ / \___/
         \___/

Yeah, I see that I needed to include a cross-section of this. My Space Pod from Lost In Space has the same construction element; you'd think I would have learned!

That's what I love about these forums- lots of help (for me that is!)

Best Regards,
