Wow.... I built Jorge's Serenity model as my very first papercraft ever, so the idea of this one, bigger, better, and more accurate makes me drool! I will definitely be watching this thread!

-> DesignR: In the series, the shuttles had no markings at all. On the blueprints, there were some big dark-bluish 1s and red 2s over the doors. Hard to say if they were actually there in the movie. I haven't included them in the kit because then I'd have to draw two different hulls and that wouldn't fit on two pages :p . Feel free to edit it, of course.
-> Millenniumfalsehood: :D -> All: As promised, the other work is finished. Now Serenity is my number one weekend job .

Progress report
Dining area copula (the "tortoise shell") begins to take a shape:
At first I thought it will be easy to make a sphere or an annulus, slice a chunk from it and fit it on the hull. Or use some kind of transition surface. Nice theory, but the shape is quite far from anything regular and we need it to be unfoldable anyway, so I returned to my favourite sculpting method: create a big brick and chop pieces off it until the shape looks right . Quite a slow, one facet at a time process, but the good thing is that (so far) the edges match the panel seams of the original cupola perfectly. There would be more progress, but on Saturday an Alliance Stormcloud-class heavy atmospheric cruiser arrived and hovered over our town for almost whole evening, threatening us with its armed Megavolt cannons. I really didn't like the idea of having my computer EMP'd by a nearby lightning, so I disconnected it from the power grid and opened a good old non-electronic book... See you next week

Small update:
Forward part of the cupola is finished, shuttle dock recess is drilled out and now the back and sides are under the virtual knife. It is a little bit trickier than the front because the shape is much less regular, but still nothing fatal...

Wow amazing model, truly worthy of the word awsome. I'm going to have to get some serious gorram practice in so that I can attempt this!
And what was that you say? your doing the old girl herself- Serenity, looks like I will have to move to a bigger flat when I build it in 35mm scale! Many thanks for the work, with regards <M> |

Thank you for your kind words.
Bad news: I forgot this week's screenshot at home, so no pics this time. Good news: The cupola has been successfully finished as well as the cargo bay overall shape. Now I'm fitting it to the upper neck surface. Stay tuned .

I realise that I’m getting a little ahead of things here but, is the level of detail in the two (excellent) shuttles am accurate indication of what we can expect from Serenity herself. How much (if any) of the interior are you planning to build? My head is full of totally unrealistic expectations

Nice, nice, nice ! This is a double bonus, because we are in for some rain. Ow, shucks, I'll have to stay indoors and play with my paper models . . . Thanks for the download. -AndrewO, in San Jose, CA
