I'm blown away. This has been a very entertaining thread to read.

D-WHALE....Awesome collection!

TC.....I want this!

I started work on my old plastic kit years ago, even scratch built a tiny Defiant to go with it, made plans to scratch an Excelsior....then life took hold. It's still sitting in a box.

Then I discovered PAPER. :D

I'm grateful that people like ALL of you exist in the world. I grateful for forum where a nerd can be a nerd

Wow

Thunderchild,

Those shots look fantastic. I think this will be the best DS9 model available anywhere, in any media. The texturing is looking excellent, and allows for massive levels of custom detailing with raised and recessed panels. Not to mention lighting. Stunning work. Congratulations.

Hi TC-

- Thanks for posting and sharing the development of your DS9. I've been lurking watching your builds and others. Uh, what was said earlier, neat greebles, I love 'em too. I like how in one of the last of pics you show flat pieces of detail paper (like windows or plating) being applied to the Station shell rings, nice nice touch...

Sent with cheer~~

This is a really good physical version of DS9 I have seen in a while.
I am new here, I found this thread on a search for DS9 texturing, I wanted to see what other people were doing with a DS9 model.
I am building DS9 myself in 3d cgi and am sourcing the net for surface texturing ideas and this lead me to you guys . . .

Nice work going on here, now is this paper modeling? . . someone explain the concept briefly, it looks very interesting . . .
TC love the DS9 model, are you going to show a complete version of it?

A 3D model is created and then unfolded into a flat 2D pattern, printed then assembled into a physical model. can't get much briefer than that!

Just to bring everyone up to speed, gpdesigner has created a 3D cgi model of the DS9 station that is absolutely phenomenal!!!

In fact all areas of detail in my textures of this design, where I couldn't find decent reference from the original studio model, I derived from the cgi model gp created!

For you DS9 fans I really recommend you check out his work - It's greeble heaven: Solar Voyager: Star Trek Deep Space Nine
