New version of the Chaffee/Type 10 Shuttle

During a discussion in another thread here on papermodelers, I mentioned a thought I'd had about modifying my version of the Chaffee to a shuttle that had been the loser in a battle with the Borg. I took the Chaffee patterns and designed what I thought a Federation shuttle would looks like if it were assimilated. I started by replacing the Defiant registry markings with the U.S.S. Kyushu, a ship that was destroyed at Wolf 359, and changed the name of the shuttle to "Grissom" in keeping with the Apollo 1 theme. Next I darkened all of the colors on the whole model, as I wanted it to appear a bit more sinister, and because I always liked the effect on the TV show of people's skin turning grey as they were assimilated. Next I recolored all of the engines, replacing the blues and reds with shades of green, and then added battle damage.

I've done one other version of this model as well, which was just a simple change of registry to the U.S.S. Sao Paulo. This one was named McCool, after William McCool, who was the shuttle commander of the Columbia's last mission.

Glad you like it, Mike. It really was just a quickie. I find that the more I look at it the more I want to do with it, like adding more Borgie bits, and parts that could be layered to up the detail quotient, but I just haven't had the time.

How about an assimulated starfleet starship

So you're doing it kind of Ent "Regeneration" style? Sounds interesting, feel like posting pictures yet?

I always a theory that some Borg cubes actually started life as assimilated starships, and had just been built up into the cubes as they assimilated other individuals and ships.

I haven't gotten one built yet, Paragon, so no pics of a finished one, yet. It's in the download section if you'd care to build your own, and I should have one cut out and assembled by Friday. Tomorrow is Honey-Do day, so I have to do brakes on the wife's van before I get back to it.
