i used a sharp knife to score the outline of the vents, and i finished the job with scissors.

The beginning of the thread is begun with the first cut. Are you really using a pocket knife to cut with? I know of people who sharpen knives to a razors edge but it it would be unwieldy to cut with. Then there are those who do not use knifes at all but strictly scissors. This should be an interesting build. Waiting to see more, good start with knife and all.

the first vent is done. don't even attempt to use the tabs, i had to use a magnifying glass just to see them. also, this will be my first build ever to use connection strips (or whatever they are called).

the first side of vents are done. it is now time for me to make a couple of notes.

1.) my work looks awful up close.

2.) when you are working on the first peice (#1), DO NOT ASSEMBLE IT ALL OF THE WAY. it will make it impossible to fit the vents in effectively. so don't complete it into a cylinder untill the vents are in. i am not sure if there is more to it, but just to be safe, i am going to leave it open for now.

3.) the vents will try and spread out from the holes, so they require constant adjustment to make sure they stay in place.

4.) not using the tabs is easier than using the tabs. this model is just too darn tiny for tabs to be effective. plus, they are microscopic! joining strips or just plain edge joining should do fine.

5.) a good sense of spatial thinking will come in handy. know what the peice you are glueing is supposed to look like when it is done.

Sorry to criticize, but part of that appears to be your cutting method.
Although your pocket knife might be an "old friend", a "trusted tool" and extremely sharp,
it will not give you the clean and accurate cuts of a Hobby Knife or Scalpel.

And Scissors are definately not the right tool for such small cuts and openings.

I know thats a very small part, but cleaner cuts are possible with certain "craft" tools.

What paper/card weight are you using?

Other than that...you have accomplished more with this model than anyone else so far!!!...so keep on going!

erm... sorry, i dont know what card weight it is. its my mother's, and it came in am multi-color pack with a clear box. no label. since it is not a very heavy cardstock, i am going to take a very wild guess and say it's about 65.

it's not my pocket knife either (it's my dad's). it is my first time to use anything but scissors, and the pocket knife is all i had.

that finishes up peices 1-11.

i should note that my model is actually 4% smaller than full size. this is because my printer's margins were not wide enough.
