update

just a short update ...not spent a lot of time on it today..

now it might be the way im building it or my lack of experience but im finding a lot of parts that need editing to get them to fit ...

examples of this....
in the first pic you see the nearly completed section,it has two beams running across the top that support the roof for this section, the roof like the other parts has loads of bits stuck all over it (pic two),and as it was originally drawn there was no allowance for the beams,i:e as it was the roof section would not sit flat on the beams, had to edit the roof part and jiggle around some of the parts that stick onto it...

third pic ,two more sections of the roof, they join together to make a corner and again no allowance on the stuck on bits to allow the two parts to meet correctly, had to cut the parts short,

forth and fith pic ,the original part as drawn, and my re-draw added a bottom to the box to aid gluing onto the roof section, will add flaps as i cut it out

i may well be looking at this all wrong? but its working for me so far lol

This is a really good build-up diary; thank you for sharing! Part fit-ups are a real pain, but you seem to be managing nicely. I look forward to seeing more of this beast come together.

Thank you!
Tirick

No I beleive you are right. I've ran across this at varying times on both the Predator MkII and older Rhino with parts overlapping areas of intersect. And a lot of places where there were no glue flaps (which I just add as I go). Though I think the latter is because it is intended or implied that most parts are built up on thick card and just "butted" together w/out the need of glue flaps. I found quite a few of the small shapes can be just printed on 110lb cardstock and be done with it. They are sturdy enough.

Dry fitting is a must for this stuff.

I usually save an addendum file with all the parts I've changed or added too.

Still it is an amazing amount of work he must put into these to painstaking recreate most of the model and decide what details to abstract out...or leave to the modeler to add their own touches as desired.

Really nice work on all the details... it must be taking forever to do. Thanks for providing such a detailed build thread.

Maybe someone will do some GSD's for his stuff and we can all get RoboCutters to do the precutting for us!!! (I can dream right!)

Updated the title for y'all so nobody will be confused anymore

Looks like a good start. About 12 years ago I would have been all over this build for my beloved Mantis Legion...

That looks amazing! Really nice detailing on the model and great build-up work. The design looks very clean, although I imagine you had a fair bit of fitting work to do.
