Scaling problems???
Hey guys. I got a scale-ing problem. I've been build a lot of "Quote," N gauge & HO gauge buildings and noticeing some slight differences in size.
When I measure the door I'm seeing around 5/8 inch on "N" gauge & 1 1/8 inch on HO. Does that sound right??? Pretty much figured I knew what size a regular door was and that would be a good gauge to determine the size of the model. Bottom line question is, What size in inches would a regular door on an "N" gauge & "HO" gauge building be??? Any help would be appreciated. Bob

Quote:
At HO scale/gauge which is 1:87 the door would be 7/8" tall. The numbers you quoted seem to be a bit on the large side for N and HO. Unless your considering a taller door, then your close. Hope this helps, Swampfox |

N gauge is 1:148 - 1:160 scale.
See: N scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Thus a 6.5 foot door could be .53 inch to 0.49 in N gauge. 1/2" is a good approximation. 5/8" is 0.62 inch which is slightly large for N scale but probably close enough. A 6.5' door is 0.90" inch in 1/87 scale. 7/8" = 0.88" which is close. 1 1/8 inch sounds a little large for 1/87 scale. |

N & HO Scale
Bob,
Here in the USA N scale is 1: 160 or 1 inch = 13.33 feet and HO scale is 1:87.1 or 1 inch = 7.25 feet Already given data (1/2" amd 7/8") would be fine for residences Commercial (stores and business) many times use 7 foot doors there 5/8" and 1" would be closer. Suggest you check our model RR store for a scale ruler, attached is picture of my N scale ruler. George |
