Lots of work on the project over the past week as it's being picked up tonight for use at some meetings over the next few weeks.
In the end I went for magnets (thanks Doug!) to make the building detachable from the base. I glued the magnets into strips of wood that were fixed into the base of the building at 4 points and used bolts coming up from the wooden base to give the magnets something to hold onto. Seems to work well, as they're strong magnets. There's a few bits left to do on the building, tiles on the roof, some detail around the door, eaves and guttering. The grounds around the building are only loosely put in as that's all going to change. Rather a relief to get it done, I can work on some Star Trek phasers and the Venera project for a while. Many thanks for your comments and support on this project! Thanks Julian |

Round two - the plans for the new building have been finalised so I've started on making that one. As you can see, it's a lot simpler in terms of detail with a nice curved roof. I was a bit worried about getting that smooth so there's two layers of card, a thinner first layer that's glued to the formers and then a thicker layer over the top that's just glued at the edges.

The two buildings now in their proper height and alignment. I've used magnets again in the bottom of the new building to hold it in place. As you can see there's a lot of 'ground' around the buildings to build up as well as a link bit between the two. And some final details on both buildings.
Plenty to do by next Thursday when the bloke is going to pick it up to display it at a Christmas fete in the village - they now need to raise the money to build it! Julian |

Thanks Jim. I finished the building last night and it was picked up by the guy this evening. I worked out I did 80 hours on finishing the project, I didn't count how many I did last year but it must have been over 100. So I'm going to give my fingers (and eyes!) a break for a few days at least. Here's some pictures.
