Here's a bit of useless information. The pillars in the "square" were built in such a way that when you stand in the centre the outside pillars are directly behind the front one so they can't be seen.

Here's my St Peters (I hope you don't mind Johannes). That's not me, it's a curator from the Museum of Childhood, taken when the model was part of an exhibition. The picture was sent to me - it appeared in a Shanghai newspaper!

Cheers
Mike

Thank you Mike for the nice picture! That's my role model, but the road is still long!

You're going to have fun with it Johannes. Good luck for your build. Mine is almost ready - I have been building it on and off from last spring - still some final touches missing.

@ Mike: I never realized that the picture shows your work (should have guessed though knowing your connection to V&A). But I've seen it many times and it's a great build! And a good photo, shows scale too. :-)

Tapcho,

Your comments "beg the question".... Where did you see the picture... and have you seen other pictures?

Cheers

If you try Google picture search with ''vatican paper model'' Washington Post's server shows the picture and the caption. If you do picture search with the image itself it shows in some individuals picture feeds too. Couple of years ago it showed up more frequently than now - at that time it was more related to when searching generally pictures of various Micromodels. Other than this picture, not for a long time but years back yes, can't recall when or where.

Hello,
the dome of St. Peter's Basilica consists of a "bulkhead framework" by which the dome is built. The abutting edges are then covered with narrow strips. Quite simple, really ...

You will find quite a few Micromodel builds (including the one by Mike Stamper) on my collection on https://www.flickr.com/photos/zeist_bouwplaten/

There are relatively few architectural models there - so if anyone can send pictures, please do so. > [email protected]

It was just a reaction to Mike's question about where you saw the picture!
