Micromodels St. Peters Rome & Vatican 1:3900
Good day,
thank You, Adam! From the series of architectural models of the English company "Micro Models Ltd." I would like to present here the construction of cardboard model kit St. Peter's Rome and the Vatican. The kit consists of twelve postcards large arches that came packaged in a paper sleeve. The sheet was printed in 1954 and thus shows us the integrity of the buildings around 1950 ... |

Because ... the parts are quite small, I'm going to show both my tools and techniques for this construction ...

Hi Tim, I am glad that you watching here. I have an original. A copy would have to be excellent for such small parts.

Good luck with the build - you will be surprised how detailed the kit is. The dome has about 60 parts - If I remember correctly. I built the model many years ago.
May I offer a piece of advice? On the small outer buildings I cut off the 6th side - the base, I found that the card was too thick and gave the buildings a very lopsided look. With modern glue and the size of the buildings there is no problem gluing the walls to the base sheet. This is very OTT and not recommended - I cut out all the black areas between the pillars, made fountains from cocktail sticks and the water from balsa cement, and made the obelisk from another cocktail stick. Oh! I made the cross for the dome from fine cotton thread and superglue. Quite MAD! Cheers Mike |

Hi Mike! Thank you for your post. Yes, you're right. For small parts you can see exactly when something is not exactly right. This is sure to be the most difficult at this size. The base plates I have also cut off. Individual walls I had to cut, because they were not exactly to fold. But see finished building very well when they are so tiny!

I built the the kit few months back. I didn't want to cut the original so I scanned the pages and printed them - black and white (I run out of all colors in my printer at that time. I did what Mike did and cut out all the pillars of the colonnade and it really enhances the model but in retrospect the original way is truer to the original. There are two double rows of pillars in the colonnade and one really can't see through it. The sacristy shows that your's is going to be a great model. Looking forward seeing more.
