Okay here's a few photo's of my test build thus far. I'm pleased to say that everything fits together so far and I am drafting and writing instructions for this kit as I go.

More to follow...

Looks fantastic Clive !!!
It is really coming alive now.
Your attention to detail is wonderful.
The first thing I thought of while viewing your pictures
is,,, I bet you could even add clear windows to it using
clear packing tape mounted on the inside of the model.
And it looks large too.
How big is the model?
And are you going to offer it in a couple different sizes?
Best Regards,
Gary

Hi Gary

Thanks for the comments. The model base in fact fits onto an A4 size, so not that big, I think the angle of the photo's make it seem larger.

The Model dimensions are:

Height - 140mm

Length - 267mm

width - 174mm

I thought only to offer the model in the above size, scale 1:120. I guess anyone printing it out could rescale it smaller though!

Yes as you say, the windows could be cut right through in places to allow for a clear transparent backing material - good idea.

Anyways, the model kit will be ready with instructions soon...

Regards

Clive

Splendid work Clive, I'm really impressed :-)

That would look great, suitably scaled, sitting on a hill on a model railway :-) Perhaps, if your maths is up to it, you could add a 'printer percentage' chart to your instructions? e.g. for 00 scale print at 50%, N Gauge, print at 20% etc. (they're guesses, by the way!) It's a bit more work, granted, but maybe worth considering to appeal to wider audience :-)

Hi Clive,
Another suggestion for you is to do the Motte and grounds
along with the Castle.
THEN,,,
When you are able to package up the entire model
as a sale item,,, or at least as a DVD item.
Offer it to the Castle gift shoppe as an addition to their
offerings to the visitors.
Never know,,, it might be a good thing,,,
and also lead to other projects about historical sites
in England for you to do.
Even somethings for the B.M.
Best Regards,
Gary

Thanks again, I intend to only provide the kit as a downloadable product.Once downloaded it should provide additional opportunities for the end user to re scale if they wish too for their own developments.I will revisit the idea of developing the motte and bailey, but for now my main target is to complete the keep.
My main area of interest is architecture and I will hopefully work towards developing more subjects - particularly medieval and probably more of the 'less known' buildings of The British Isles.

I have in the pipeline a couple more interesting and historical projects to develop, both with encouragement from British organisations.

Here's a little update ...

Ground supports and roofs are done, next up and last will be the wall pilasters and the west face with the arcading. Instructions are 50% complete.

Hi Clive,
All I can say is WOW !!!
You are really doing a fantastic job on designing and building this
historic site for all to enjoy.
Can't wait to see how it turns out finished.
And if you take it to the castle to shoot a few pictures of it with the
original.
I bet they will be amazed at your efforts.
I still think you should offer it as a kit for the gift shop.
And for children to build as school projects for history classes.
But that's just the way I feel about it.
Best Regards,
Gary
