SAustin16, yes this is based on a real building in Randsburg CA. If you've been to Randsburg, then I'm sure you've seen it since it's a very small town as you know. Here's an interesting side note: I was at a Model Railroad convention showing my kits one year and a gentleman came up to me very excitedly. Turns out that he recently purchased the actual building! I gave him a free kit to display there.

An interesting story about growing up in Randsburg at the turn of the previous century (starting on page 4), including how the author almost got dynamited when he was crawling under the barbershop.
