Cape Disappointment Lighthouse

I'm about midway along this build of a modified Fiddlers Green model. Blog entry here:

Nice move on the lighthouse!

I went and read a whole attack of posts on your blog. Enjoyed them - thank you.

The post and link to the nuclear testing models is particularly interesting!

Thank you!

Here's an update on the model as it nears completion... I just have some landscaping to do on the pink foam.

Finished. I decided it was too much work to do landscaping, so I cut a circle of some scale grass instead. Works very nicely, as you can scrape away the grass to reveal a "dirt" path.

Built two; one is for sale on my Etsy shop. I'm keeping the other, because I have a half-baked notion to build a model train layout someday.

Came out excellent!

It always suprises me at what great models the Fiddlers Green ones are, and how they turn out even better if given a bit of care.

Weathering on the tower is nice.

Your railings are also very good - what did you use?

I cut thin strips of black cardstock. Took the FG printout and taped it to my cutting mat, then taped some wax paper over that. Taped the long strips of cardstock railing to this template, keeping them as tight as I could. Then I cut a bunch of short strips for the supports. I glued the small bits to the long bits with tiny, tiny drops of PVA, then trimmed away the excess cardstock with an X-Acto chisel.

I've also made HO scale ladders this way.

Thank you.

Going to try that! Sounds like an excellent way to make small quantities of railings....

What a charming model. Have you thought about adding a small figure or two to add to the scale and 'life' of the model ?

I have indeed, and tiny figures are going to be the subject of a future blog post. Meanwhile, here's a pic of one.
