Paper Nano Part II: Golden Pavillion

This was my second attempt at a Paper Nano model, the Golden Pavillion of Kinkakuji. Apparently, it's a pretty famous Japanese landmark which is literally covered with gold leaf, inside and out (hence, tourists are kept at a healthy distance!) I think the original building has been destroyed twice by fire, mostly recently by a deranged monk around 1951!

This model adds a nice touch in that the relevant parts are modeled in a gold foil type paper as you'll see in the photo.

This build went smoother than my first Paper Nano (the 5 story Pagoda) as I was better acquainted with the connection techniques and how best to glue the parts, though I did still botch an area or two. The structure of the pagoda roof is challenging to do properly, and that's probably the area of this model I would have liked a mulligan on, but you know how it goes with these paper kits- you get one shot on most parts, so hope for the best.

As with the earlier kit, the neat little tree was included, but there is no background diorama display box. This has a rectangular hole under the building and through the base, presumably for one of those LED base plates where you can light up the model. Will have to try that someday as it seems like it would be cool.

Best regards,

Andy

Turned out real good. Yes, those curvy roofs do present a challenge.
