Help Needed

I work as a volunteer in a local National Trust Property - Standen House.

I have been told that some years ago - at least 20 - The National Trust sold a kit of the house. Unfortunately no one has any details and the people in the shop have looked and found nothing.

So - does anyone have a copy or any info?

Cheers

Mike

Is that the West Sussex one or the Isle of Wight?

That would have been a rather involved model

As Mike implies, it is the National Trust Standen House in Sussex that he is interested in.

National Trust Models

Mike.

I found this information on the "Card Modelling FAQ" web site several years ago:

"Oakenfull Oak Tree Models
Crookswood Stud Farm
Horsleys Green
High Wycombe
Bucks HP14 3XB

Produced the models that were sold by the National Trust in their shops. Six excellent models of NT houses, one for each period of English architecture: Standen, Hardwicke Hall, Beningborough Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Powis Castle and Belton House plus some other postcard models.of lesser houses. Very nice set, beautifully printed. Shame they didn't sell to well, discontinued."

I'm guessing these might be the models you're thinking of. At the time, I tried to find anyone who had any information about them, but failed. A close friend was, at the time, the Trust's Chief Curator and Architectural Historian and he also tried to help me, but was unsuccessful. I think I recall seeing one of the models at for sale at Polesden Lacey a long time ago (say 20 years), but foolishly didn't buy it when I had the chance, as I was only interested in ecclesiastical buildings at the time.

If you have better luck than me in your researches, I'd be very interested to hear about it.

PS I tried to post the FAQ page URL, but wasn't allowed to include under the site rules. I expect you're already familiar with the site, though and, if not, will be able to find it easily.

NT Houses

It seems as if the company still exists, though it's now called "Querceus Design". They have a website, which you'll find by searching for the company by name. They now seem to specialise in museum/display design, rather than card models.

Good luck!
