Papermau Service Station
I must be nuts... I am building a small HO layout for something to do. So, included in the layout will be a service station.
I found this building on Papermau. The next two images are from there, to show what this should become. I have no idea why the red car with the fins is in the model. It is WAY too big, but oh well... And this is progress so far today. I finally found a bit of software that will let me print properly from my iPad. I never fire up my laptop any more so this should help the process along. Score, cut, fold... lots of times. There are no instructions, so I must go slow. Are you having fun yet? I know I am. This will be built as a Phillips 66 garage/station, for personal reasons.

The doors and windows are going in. I made a holder for a bottle of thinned PVA glue. A bit of cardboard tube glued to a cardboard base makes it hard to spill the glue when the lid is off. The lid is a brush holder for the little brush for applying the glue. A bottle of water makes cleaning the brush easy when done. Of course the hair clips are wonderful for this stuff too.
And another tip I found... Legos are great for lots of things other than building things. They make molds for silicone work and in this case, are perfect right angle blocks for bracing stuff while gluing parts in place.

The first of the three sections of the building is assembled. Lots of little details to do yet as well as coloring the cut edges and white spaces and sealing. But for now, I think this looks good.
Price so far, less than one printed sheet of paper, using the free download. And, a few drops of PVA.

Looking like a good start.
I have used lego's for years in my modeling, and they make a great way to hold an aircraft upside down to attach the landing gear and doors. I never thought of using them to brace up a right angle. Excellent tip!

Thanks! I think this will work up better than the original images from the Papermau. I am taking time to reinforce the inside of the walls and will be detailing it some too. Also, the lean-to section on the end isn't big enough to get a vehicle into, so I will make it twice as long by printing two copies of it and joining them.
I want to extend that little awning roof on the front of the building out and make it into a covered area with the gas pumps just under the edge, leaving space to drive a vehicle under the awning. I also found a hydraulic lift like was seen at a lot of stations. It is in another gas station kit so I will print those parts. I might put it up in the air with a vehicle on it. I don't have any vehicles in hand yet though.

This is a fun model.
Your modifications sound interesting. I built this model a few years ago ...made a few of my own modifications and added some other models to create a Walking Dead Diorama which I also entered in (and won) an online Walking Dead contest. Please take a look. https://www.flickr.com/photos/659362...57676565975303 Not sure if I can provide any other help, but don't be afraid to ask.

methinks a trip to the local Lego store is in order for some long bricks, and maybe a trip to the pharmacy for the hair clips(various lengths)
