Yep, those columns. Columns. So. Many. Columns.

Looks like you are now a cigarette factory.

But if I start smoking them, the model will be incomplete...
After rolling myself into boredom for a while, here is the start of the actual colonnade.

How long did it take to build the colonnade and get the all square upright ? I just have a domino effect happening near the end.

The trickiest part (photos following soon) is getting the roof plate upon the columns, and getting all the columns straight. I have used a slow-drying glue that allows for corrections, and after glueing I have gone right into correcting positions by tweezer. I will first do the roof plates separately for each of the four floor plates, and join them after to form the square.

It's really a wonderful model. I always have seen it in Schreiber Bogen Catalogue but I wasn't aware of its real dimensions! It's HUGE!
And you are really getting the best out of this project; great work! |

It's indeed huge. I have been itching to build this one for some time, but back home in the Netherlands I simply didn't have the space.

So here are the main parts of the colonnade, and a test fit with the basilica. I've seen enough paper columns for some time to come.

Looks a lot better than the little vignette I plan to work on tonight.
And it all looks like it fits! My biggest fear would be doing that much work and then having a gap. If I remember correctly, are the little statues the next step?

Yes, a serious challenge to my cutting skills is soon to follow.
