These are imaginative and good-looking structures.

Your threads are always most interesting.

Thanks, I am trying to mix it up a little. A little fantasy once in a while ...

Here is a look at the removable entrance flap. The ground texture needs some more work. And I am very much looking forward to start working on the bigger hut once this one is done!

I have spent the last week learning lots of new stuff in Blender so that I would be able to create the ground textures. After lots of brain overload I was able to get this result today: The base for the small hut!

Doesn't it make the hut look so much better? I am very happy with the result so far. I still want to add some minor stuff to the interior (sleeping rugs, fireplace) but so far it looks quite convincing.

The hut in place ...

... and when you need to go inside

Thumbs up

Lookin' good. You need a big ol' fire pit in the center of the interior for a big ol' fire to keep the bad things away.

The shadows on the rocks even appear to be roughly in the same directions. Is that a function of the mapping you were talking about?

The shadows are generated by environment lighting. That's just a fancy name for the way I define the sun :-) But with only that the shadows would be too hard and prominent, so I added another thing which "smooths" the shadows (called ambient occlusion lighting). That way if you have a couple of tiles on your gaming table, no matter in which direction, they should still look good together. If the shadows would be too prominent it might look weird if one tile is facing that direction and another a different one.

I was working on the fireplace to be optionally put in the center of the small hut interior. After a couple of versions I have settled on these two versions for a cold and lit fireplace (bottom row).

Have a look at the evolution ...

I have learned a lot about handling materials in Blender the last day. Procedural nodes and UV mapping and painting ... so many options.

I will start looking into the sleeping rugs now :-)
