Small London Gate

I work still on Cruiser Aurora but started Micromodels gate. It is very tiny... I can cut a lot of parts with scissors which make it easier than large parts. Model sometimes looks bad in big picture but remember it is very tiny in real life so you don't see mistakes so big.

I make these with about 5 hours work. Of course on first part I make mistake in thinking windows glue on outside of house. So I build house without cut outs for windows and doors. So I cut house in half where It says Glue No. 2 Here and glue back together.

I did better with next building and make some changes instead of folding I cut apart and glued back as seperate piece. There is not a lot of instruction, mostly the picture on the outside of the sleeve and some history on the inside mostly. But you can visualize a building more easy than ship for me.

These are pieces to make Dormer Window that go on Building 1. You have to bend them also and the window goes inside and the shingle go across the roof pitch angle.

I bend parts with tweezers and wear my eye glasses to see! This is four parts with nine bends. I score first with sharp burnishing tool before cutting out.

There are more TINY little part to cut. I have problem with the round one mostly. Things like the door they say "score on back" but I fold edges from front over razor blade for sharp edge and is less work.

Yeah my secret is giant fake penny to make model part look really small. It is really 50cm tall for Dormer not 5mm

I could drink a cold one now after making such small thing from so many parts!

I absolutely love seeing Micromodels, even today (considering they are fifty-plus years old). I have copies of them all so seeing pictures of the finished product is invaluable.
Looks great so far!

Fake pennies from heaven...

Good girl! Always keep them guessing!

After enough cold ones, people will even believe you!

The paper penny does look convincing...

The penny is okay, but I'm really impressed by the giant razor blade.

But seriously, this is a very nice little model, Lala!

Don

PS: I also look forward to seeing your build of the cruiser Aurora. I just came back from rehearsing my annual Russo-Japanese War lecture, which I give tomorrow morning. I had forgotten that the Aurora, in addition to being one of the few survivors of the Battle of Tsushima and its revolutionary connection, was the warship that fired at the British Dogger Bank fishing fleet as the Baltic Squadron was en route to East Asia in October 1904.

Lala, check out this model I bought for Christmas - Richard Vyškovský's model of Prague's Městská Památková Rezervace - only 6,110 pieces. :o I was hoping to start on it by now, but I keep getting sidetracked with new projects.

Good point, Don...

The razor is more interesting, especially when exploring what the artist must have been thinking when choosing to place a window over the sharp edge!

Was it a statement of the cost of seeing things clearly?

Was it a parallel to the dangers of purveying the human heart?

Was it an advertisement for really sharp glass?

You've gotta love modern art!

LOL it is more simple really so you all know how big a razor blade is now you know how small window is. I can say it is very tiny but without seeing how tiny you think it is bigger. The Dormer window was hard. I made tiny glue tabs inside also with scrap paper.

My new favorite glue is Devcon Weldit. I know not what I buy it for but it was in my craft box unopened. It is clear but not as messy as Impact type cement. I use Weldit and Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky a lot here.
