When I saw the title I thought "been there - made the model". But then I realised that this wasn't the same church I made. The one I made was from Schreiber Bogen and is e Castle Church you mentioned.

There are many churches in Wittenburg - is "yours" the one that has the rather unfortunate plaque on the side?

Cheers

Mike PM will be sent !

I never heard about it, but some quick web-search confirmed, that the Stadtkirche indeed features a so-called "Schmähbild" (defamatory image).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judensau

It's a relic that reminds us that particular discrimination and hate-spreading about jews is not a new problem. Although a memorial plate about the holocaust has been installed at the feet of the Schmähbild, it is still highly controversial. Some say it needs to remain as a part of history and to remind us of past errors, others say it is just too insulting to remain.

In the church model, there is a structure at the corner of part 8 that may or may not be the plaque. Either way it is not recognizable on the model.

Also for those who do not wish to read the article: This kind of plaque was actually rather common in medieval times and there are at least 30 more churches and buildings that still feature them, mostly in Germany but also in France, Sweden and Switzerland.

Thumbs up Model now available as a download

Hello all,

I have forwarded the emails of those who sent me PMs to my father and he tried sending the model to some of them, but most have bounced because the model files are too big. I therefore convinced him to upload the model to two filesharing-services so everyone can download themselves.

Here are the links:

Depositfiles

Keep 2 share

If you have any other suggestions on where to upload, please let me know. I have already ruled out the following, because files expire too quick there: rapidgator, sendspace & uploaded

Thanks for the file links - I've used the Depositfiles link and everything went smoothly.

The two Towers, no three Towers

It's tower time. First as a little warm-up, here is the stair tower which goes into a little corner between the two parts of the nave.

And now we are ready to get bigger: the two main Towers. One is marked as the north tower, which is the left one when facing the church standing in front of both towers. This will later be important, as the upper sections of the towers are not the same.

Moving along to some annexed parts. First is a small Annex on the south tower.

And I am ready to revisit the north west stair tower. This is where a part of the main roof is extended and i had to figure it out, whether it is needed or not, but the stair tower has its own roof. With the stair tower attached, I could finally attach the leftover buttress from my first workstep.
Just in time to continue with another batch of buttresses, the more the merrier...

Ok, let's conclude the buttress-business: I assembled all remaining buttresses including a small decorative tower on top of one of them. I have to relocate shooting the parts to the window, as the weather is so bad, that the light inside the room is not enough to shoot any acceptable photos without flash.

Installing the buttresses on the eastern (choir) side. Note the interresting triangular buttress. Then the little decorative tower is built on top of another buttress.
