oh, I see now, what he was going for.

The real look is a very difficult thing to recreate in paper, I think.
The papier mache approach is to add a more uneven surface.
So, maybe with some dark paint and grass/growth, it could be improved?

For a paper model, I prefer the simpler look before the papier mache,
but I can understand the effort to make more realistic surfaces.

That must have been an incredible undertaking, to build the castle on that rock!

A great job on the base.

I think that the paper mache is very effective - very realistic. I actually hate the angled effect of rock in many architectural models. It makes them look like a cartoon or SD model from an anime series.

With an architectural model the important thing is to do the landscaping so it shows off the model itself to advantage. You have achieved this 100 per cent. The surroundings never have to model the real landscape! They are just the "frame" used to present the picture.

I have a model to make with a similar rock setting and will use this technique when I make it now I have seen how well it works!
