That's a clever solution Chris! Looking forward to the texturing.

Beautiful. It's neat to see the roof take shape.

Genius - not only the 'standard' design, but also the 'mechanical' design so that the roof folds flat.😊

Thanks gotham. The fold-flat is very important to gamers. It's sometimes a pain to develop but very satisfying once achieved And although I have added more shelves to store and display models, I think I will be on the needing end of this too some day!

In the meantime I have started the texturing of the roof parts.

If you look closely I have added the depiction of the special extending framework joints on the core part as an alternate layer (also for the walls, but I had them built before). I don't remember the Japanese name, maybe one of you will know? I like that pattern very much.

I have completed the full beta build. The roof is glued fixed (so no fold-flat this time) as I wanted to see how it goes with the outer rim edges. With the protruding stair roof it was a little bit trickier to assemble than I remembered it to be with the bell tower. But I think I will like the fold-flat version without them even better as you have a better view of the details under the roof then.

Next I will tackle the extension to build the larger version of the shrine.

The question came up if the base will hold heavy metal minis. So I unpacked my old collection of Lord-of-the-Rings figures I have painted a decade ago (when my eyes still allowed me to do so) and went on to try them on the new extended base.

So here is the proof. The base holds 531grams (apparently 1lb 2.73ounces) of metal minis. No problem at all. And, yes I see it too, the top of Gamling's banner has broken off!!! But I digress ...

I just put this simple addition under the base.

And this is the extended base without distractions.

It all looks great and is clearly capable of supporting no end of mythical creatures.

Looks adequate for any task.

Sillymarilly and clubhouse ... LOL

I have not completed the extended version of the shrine.

Next are the weathering layers (dirt and moss for the roof).
