More Wells again.
I have just made the two transepts but they will only gain real solidity when the central tower is made and they are both stuck to it. I am currently drawing one face of the central tower - the four sides are virtually identical - at three times the size of the model itself and then I shall duplicate it and reduce it in order to make the finished piece. Hopefully tomorrow!

More Wells again.
Here are some more drawings for the ongoing work on the soon-to-be-published 1:240 scale model-kit of Wells Cathedral. As you can see, I draw everything three times its final, published size. It's good for the detail and helps my eyes which are not as good as they used to be. Here are drawings for the Chain Gate, the North Porch and the Central Tower. The tower posed a real problem. Whether to go flat or relief. I opted for flat sides for ease of construction and tried to suggest depth by using crafty shading. It is a compromise for sure but an OK one at that.

Ruert: I think the decision for the flat tower is better. Anyone who decides to need more detail can cut out details and create depth with own addings of paperboard.

It does not surprise me in the least to hear you say that. I was only talking to someone today about the way you miniaturise these models. They were worried that the models might be too fiddly actual size!

Here are the latest photographs of my progress with the Wells Cathedral model. I am very pleased with the snug fit of the octagonal Chapter house and all the little structures around its base: I am finally learning to factor in the thickness of the card rather than just slavishly taking every measurement from the graph-paper drawings. By the way, the West Front is progressing nicely. I shall post some pictures of it when the first parts have been made. Probably on Tuesday.
