Very fine work on those small buildings I experienced the same need for card formers and to serve as shelves to glue the roofs...

The south-east corner buildings

Hello gents,

It's been a while, due to work load and a 10 days hiking trip in the Swiss alps, progress on the Bavo has been slow. However, for some time I had already started on the clutter of buildings at the church south-east corner.

This is by far the most interesting part of the build up so far and involves quite a bit of work. It's not done yet but herewith the latest status. In general I started with setting up the walls of the buildings first and keeping the roofs for last. Nothing specific to mention, apart from the usual trick of reinforcing the walls with cereal box quality cardboard.

There's not a real order of building required. As said before, it's more a matter of going from left to right, which is also the most logical way.

The pictures show the progress as it came along.

Erik

Great, beautiful work. The constructions of these cathedrals are impressive, they have so many architectural details that you do not know what to look at. Every year here, one day we had a family in Luján, there is the basilica that keeps the image of the virgin, it is low compared to these cathedrals, I spend a lot of time admiring the building and I always find something I did not see. I do not imagine if I was in front of one of these cathedrals. Greetings.
Sergio

Fine progress, Erik It is fun to see how small those buildings are when compared to the cathedral. The warm colors are just lovely!

More south-east corner buildings

Thank you Ricardo and Kurt! Indeed, the warm colors make this an attractive model to make. In reality the cathedral looks rather greyish, which would take away quite some of the appearance when applied to the model.

In the meantime, the cluster of buildings at the southeast corner is done. Fun to make but a lot of work involved. No serious fitting issues, except for the last building on the right side in the pictures (building "W") where one of the roof bays did not coincide with its gable. A minor correction to make.
Well at least I’m happy that all buttresses are in place now and that the remaining side roof “panels” can be installed. This will then complete let's call it the ground floor of the cathedral.

For proper aligning the side roof panels I already glued strips of 0.5mm thickness cardboard on the tabs as done previously for the other side roof sections. The second last picture indicates the situation before and the last picture after gluing the board strips.

Cheers,
Erik

Very recognisable.
If it was not for the size of the model I give it a try myself.
That’s the influence of a report of a flawless project: it’s inspiring.
Cheers

Coming along nicely Erik.

Lovely model. I think those Cathedral models that have buildings clustered against them always have a special appeal - instead of standing in isolation, they seem to come alive, as well as causing anyone viewing them to visually explore the model more.
