@ Ronanmodels - thanks
@ Thomas – You know, the models are always a compromise between realism and buildability, just to name two parameters. The availability of printed transparencies and laser cut parts can be a plus. It is not necessarily a plus, depending on the way it is devised and on the modeler’s taste. As you suggest, in the real buildings, the windows look bright if you are inside and there is daylight outside. Not so much at night, if you are outside and the inside is illuminated, and certainly not bright if you are outside, in broad daylight! So, realism may not be the real objective but is that so bad? Not sure! The “big three” cathedrals released by GPM (Krakow, Lodz and Wroclaw) use the extras very differently and, in my view, with mixed results. In Krakow, I didn’t hesitate to use the transparencies and the window frames. The frames have a solid color but are very thin and it is easy to open the inside walls so that the light goes through. In Lodz, I find the window frames less effective because, having a solid color, they are broad. The textures of the original parts are lost, which is a pity. Anyway, I used them. The engraved parts, in my view, are a waste of effort. The “3D” effect is barely apparent and doesn’t compensate the simply printed texture loss. In Wroclaw (it should come next…) I decided not to use most of the window frames and, as a consequence, the transparencies. The frames are cut in white and yellowish card. They make a sharp contrast to the mainly dark walls and (again in my view) don’t make the model better. Using the transparencies without the frames was a possibility but the extremely dense card structure would need a major change to let the light pass. So, “my” Wroclaw cathedral was built in the old way. The bottom-line is that the extras can add value but it very much depends on the way they are devised and produced. You can check that I wrote some complaints, but in Krakow and Lodz. It will be the same in Wroclaw. Despite that, I wouldn’t hesitate a second to buy and build a copy of all three kits!... Regarding Lodz, it is complete. I start with some detail pictures. |

Wow, what a beautifully built model and building.
I love seeing these architectural models of churches, cathedrals, and basilicas. JoeG

Very elegant model Ricardo, and as usual with your trademark and exceptionally clean build! The colored "glass" windows are really a plus to this kit. Hope you have room to store it somewhere as the model looks pretty big....

Thank you very much for the comments, friends
@ Erik - Yes, the model is big but I still manage to find place for a few more in the showcase. It is already a bit crammed and some buildings get partially hidden by others. I have already moved less eye catching buildings to another place... I'll be "off" for a few days. The idea is to get back in early January. The next building to show is Wroclaw cathedral but I have a couple of Modelik train models ready to publish, apart from aircraft subjects In the meantime, let me whish Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for everyone |
