Traditional Chinese court yard house

I have started working on my next Asian project: a typical court yard house.

This is a first overall sketch I did. I will split it up into a couple of building blocks so you have a modular set you can combine in many ways. There will be the main buildings, smaller extension buildings, walls/walkways and gates.

To start with I choose the main buildings. This is a more detailed sketch I made to get a feeling of the "layers" of ornaments esp on the columns plane on the top.

Next I built a rough test build and check out if there are any surprises with the geometry.

Now I will go into detail and figure out how the fold-flat part will go...

You know me Don. Asia always has a spot in my heart. Don't know why but just love the beauty of it!

Nice. A unique area that doesn't get a lot of interest.

It's true, this is a more niche market but I just love the Architecture :-)

Here is a little WIP update. I have reworked the roof curve geometry and also made new roof tile texture from scratch.

Old and new roof texture

Old and new roof curving

Here is the updated column plane with simple ornaments ...

... and finally the roof added!

Not many days left until month end so I hope I can finish this building in time. Need to work on interior, weathering and fold-flat adaption.

Once I got this building finished, I will add more elements for the full court yard setup.

What's a San Pablo? I googled it, but got many images of a Christian saint I am guessing you are referring to something else

San Pablo is the name of the US gunboat in the movie The Sand Pebbles.
One of that style of Chinese courtyard houses you are designing played a prominent role in the final scenes of the movie.
