Trakai Castle

I saw this kit mentioned on the internet and had to buy it, partly because I've visited it.

The castle is in Lithuania and a little research shows that other than a few lighthouses only one other Lithuanian building has been published - it's a basic version of Trakai's keep.

This new kit is from GPM and has a scale of 1:350. I've had mixed results with their kits in the past but this is, to me, their best yet. The scale works perfectly for the subject. The parts fit very well and the printing is more modern than many of the GPM kits. What impressed me the most (in the early stages of the build) was the fit. You will see there is a barbican separated from the keep. I started off with the tower at bottom left and worked round to the third tower.
The walls were next and they fitted perfectly to the first tower. Either I'm getting better or it's the designer.

The scale means the base is 40 X 25cm which, for me is just right.

Cheers
Mike

Very nice Mike!

Really nice artwork as well, which adds a lot to the quality and appearance of the finished model

Very nice model.

Those type of models are interesting to explore since they seem to have a bunch of nooks and crannies to look into.

The graphics on the model parts look good.

Hmm.....something else to spend my money on. Very nice build, indeed. Are the railings hand cut or laser?

Thanks for all your comments.

The railings are all printed and haven't been cut, although I did cut out the "black bit" on the supports in the keep.

Cheers
Mike

Nice work Mike. Add a few little people (very little people) and the lived in look will really happen (of course your eyesight after creating such little people might render future builds a tad tough...), Great looking build. Well done, sir !!
